Krafty Kuts // Flamingo Funk Edition

Everyone  knows the fable of the Groundhog rising from hibernation. If she sees  her shadow, she will give birth to the Spring. But have you heard about  the legendary Mating Dance of the Funky Flamingo???

In  May flamingos start to feel the influence of the spring. And once they  are sufficiently inspired, they break out into a massive dance party  that only ends when every flamingo is paired up for mating season. The  end of the dance announces that summer is here!

But  there's just one catch. The Flamingos need a leader to have the courage  to make the first move to get the party started. Now us Montrealers  aren't shy to bust out dance moves but The Canadian Winter is a powerful  beast that won't easily relinquish its icy grip!

So  to combat this, D32, Best Kept Montreal & Bar La Shop have enlisted  the big guns. Secret meetings were held and an agreement was reached to  create a Planet Break reunion party!!! We immediately sent Funky  Flamingo ambassadors to the UK to meet with Finger Lickin Management to  enlist their top mating dance specialist.

We  are overjoyed to announce that on May 20th the Breaks Master KRAFTY  KUTS will lead the flamingos onto the dance floor to kick start the  summer and get everybody laid !!!!

Renowned  worldwide for his highly technical turntablism, meticulously crafted DJ  sets and party-punching productions, Krafty Kuts is in a league of his  own. One of the key pioneers in the UK breakbeat and bass movement,  Krafty Kuts has multiple awards to his name and has released music on  the likes of Ministry Of Sound, OWSLA, Southern Fried, DMC, Fabric and  many more.

Continuously  immersed in beat culture since forming his own b-boy break dancing crew  in the late 80s, Krafty Kuts has had his own record store chain, run  record labels, promoted critical scene events, formed his own band  Wicked City and performed to crowds of 40,000 alongside the biggest  names in music from the Rolling Stones to The Prodigy. Living, breathing  and sleeping the funk without compromise!

To  assist Krafty in this mating dance ritual, the Funky Flamingos have  lovingly selected a talented bunch of local bass & breaks DJ's. The  evening will begin with Planet Break member and mean lean breaks queen  machine MELODRASTIK!

Spinning  since 2006, this gal has played at many club nights & festivals,  recently opening for Deekline with her B2B duo HEAVY GEMZ. Melo plays a  mix of Breakbeat, Electro, House and Garage. This inspiring chef is hot  in the kitchen and fiyah on the decks! Certified Bass Freak 7 Days a  Week! Her weekly DJ sets on TWITCH are not to be missed!

Next  up, hailing from Paris we have SERAPHUN! A versatile DJ with a broad  musical palette, he blends Ambient, Hi-Tech, Bass House and Ghetto Funk  into groovadelic journeys. He has performed at Canadian festivals such  as Good Vibes, Khumeia, FME and at festivals in France like Son Libre  & Karma Atma. He describes his sound as aerobics meets headbanging,  with massive drops that will get your body levitating! So fasten your  tuque with rivets my friend or your hairdo will be ruined! (Sorry Not  Sorry).

To  open for Krafty Kuts it was a no brainer to bring in SPACEKADET, the  founder of Planet Break. His journey began in the sweaty raves of the  early 90's. In 2004 he founded Planet Break and during its 15 year run  it was THE source of breakbeats in Montreal, throwing events with  headliners like Freestylers, Deekline, Marty McFly, Robb G and of course  Krafty Kuts.

Spacekadet  performed at epic events at Piknic Électronik and S.A.T. as well as at  festivals like Totem, Eclipse and WEMF. His blazing sets are a whirlwind  of  All Dressed Old School New School Funky 4x4 Edgy Amen Breakbeats!

Finally,  to close the night, the caliente sounds of DJ GUAPO will caress you  like a tropical breeze with his blend of Glitch Hop, Ghetto Funk, Bass  House, DnB and Afro Latin Reggae grooves! If Squarepusher and Parliament  Funkadelic conceived a love child in Latin America, it would sound like  a set by Guapo.

Producer  since 1994 and DJ since 1998, he has collaborated with seminal artists  like Suns of Arqa, Youth, Muslimgauze, Quicksound and Alpha Yaya Diallo.  As the DJ & Musical Coordinator for Jean Paul Gaultier's  “Pinkarnaval” he performed to over 10,000 spectators in a stage shaped  like a giant stiletto shoe! Guapo played at international festivals like  Glastonbury (U.K.) and at the Telerama Dub Festival (Paris) he opened  for dub legend Adrian Sherwood. Local festival gigs include the Montreal  International Jazz Festival, Bal En Blanc, Eclipse, Just For Laughs,  Good Vibes, Timeless, Groove & Bass, Khumeia, Era etc...

Your  host for the evening will be Planet Break's own MC Beastieboxer! A  voice to be reckoned with, he always gets the crowd going by hyping up  the party people. As one half of Montreal hip hop group Sizzle Twist,  Beastieboxer has a profound love for all beats that are broken and all  haircuts that are bathroom.
